Quality, beauty and price are the general parameters to consider when proposing to buy hookahs.

While it is a good idea to have reviewed any local point of sale where hookahs are available, and to have tried several hookah pipes in a salon, your best option to meet the above criteria is probably to buy online. There is simply a much wider range of hookahs available online, without the margin that a physical store is required to charge.

For the hookah body, also called vase, or shishaladen, glass or Pyrex ceramic, or some other non-porous tempered material, they are best. Avoid wood or copper. The bases come in sizes from small to large and a variety of colors and multi-colored designs. The stems will generally be stainless steel or other solid metal, fluted and, again, in a range of heights. Hoses also come in a variety of styles and lengths. The tobacco bowl must be ceramic, clay, or metal. You can get a hookah with one hose connection or multiple hose connections. There are several places where you can build your own hookah from a selection of parts, and others where you can order custom hookahs. However, there is a wide selection of high-quality hookahs available.

Egyptian hookahs generally have hand-blown glass bases in jewel colors and opal tones, while Syrian hookahs have exquisitely ornate ceramic or glass bases. Beyond these traditional styles, there are plenty of modern interpretations, animal-shaped hookahs, mod hookahs, mini hookahs, travel hookahs complete with carrying case, and spinning hookahs.
