Easy storage of survival food

In today's shaky economy and with threats like climate change and green terrorism, American families must have survival food storage, emergency preparedness, and 72-hour kits. In the event of a natural or man-made disaster, local emergency people will face the same problems as the rest of us. It may take three days, 72 hours or even more for them to come to your aid. In some circumstances, you may be alone for much longer.

Don't be fooled, we as Americans take the food supply in the United States for granted. Studies have shown that a typical grocery store has less than a week of food supply if its supply chains are broken. The average American family has even less. If there is a major problem, do you want to depend on these places?
Simply put, survival food storage is being prepared. An important part of emergency preparedness is food storage and I'm going to emphasize the need to be prepared to survive for at least 72 hours, but being prepared longer is also a very good idea to consider. In the event of a widespread problem, normal food supplies will be depleted quickly, and you will be one step ahead of having your own survival food storage.

The problem may not be a disaster; In this troubled economy, no one has job security anymore. There are many of us who don't know if we will have a job in the coming weeks or even tomorrow. There is a chance that there will be no attack, major disaster, or catastrophe, but what if you lose your job or suddenly have to relocate? Having survival food storage could work just as well for a few days when money is tight. Not having to worry about buying food could make a big difference and allow you to focus on supporting your family again.

The bottom line is to be prepared. There are many reasons why the normal food supply chain could be disrupted and cause massive hysteria across the country. From a massive power grid failure to a true fuel crisis, food supplies are vulnerable to being completely shut down.

Here are some food storage tips that are simple and easy to get started.

Always keep a larger-than-normal supply of basics, such as plain grains, dehydrated milk, sugar, salt, oil, flour, garden seeds, and storable products like potatoes, onions, beets, cabbage, etc.

Keep stored foods your family is used to and knows how to cook. You will need to keep the items that need to be replaced for freshness and it will take a little work to maintain them. There are also options for having dry food storage that is made specifically for long storage periods. If you are on a tight budget like most Americans, there are prepackaged kits and you can buy the items one at a time.

Shopping at wholesale markets can save you a considerable amount of money on products like salt, flour, oil and sugar. You may have to buy a larger container than you are used to, but having more won't hurt.

Protect stored food from rodent and insect infestation by storing them in large containers. Metal containers like coffee containers and cans are the preferred method. You can find containers in places like thrift stores.

Having survival food storage will give you peace of mind. In the event of an emergency, trusting yourself will be your best option, so be prepared.
